After just under a week in France and some 340miles later, I have made it home!

Mike, my next door neighbour, and I had a fantastic time cycling through Brittany in France, involving two train journeys in England, two ferry crossings, two hotels, three Airbnb apartments, two visits to Lidl, numerous baguettes, french butter & cheese, cassoulet, pizzas, etc., etc.. Loads of memories generated, along with some beautiful scenery.

Yummy Food time!!

The number of times we said or received , “Bonjour” to and from other cyclists and pedestrians is far too many to remember but there was something really nice about the polite french culture. Nearly every car gave us plenty of room, despite that I was sporting cycling tops from either the USA or the UK!!! That said, the french 🇫🇷 colours were on my UK top - notice the sleeve cuff!!

The weather was generally fantastic and we needed to decide whether to buy some sun screen as Mike was turning into a badger as the sun made red stripes through his cycling helmet. 😀

On the Saturday, we both enjoyed a day off and a chance to visit the local market stalls. There was much to see and enjoy! Why do we make shopping in the UK far less attractive than other European countries?? Whilst we were there we stayed here.

We did have some tougher days including a small amount of rain, strong headwinds and one gruelling day of climbing, with one climb being over 750ft in 3miles with panniers on both our bikes. We were both pretty exhausted by the end of the day. So tired, that we only had enough energy to walk to a nearby MacDonalds for our evening meal - Not quite so yummy!! 🤪

The final day, we had a pretty easy and short ride to Roscoff to catch the ferry home. Accompanied by yet more lovely weather & scenery.

Well, the whole trip was fantastic training for my main event in June, when I still hope to do the West Coast of the USA and see some great friends again. This includes a couple who used to stay at our home back in Weston-super-Mare in the 1990s and a dear friend who I last saw in 2019.

Stay tuned for more cycling adventures to come! 🚴🏻‍♂️
